Why we start every project with the light

Before we choose a single colour, sofa or tile, we watch the light. It is the one thing in a room you can’t buy, and it changes everything else.

Light moves

A room facing east is bright and cool in the morning and soft by afternoon. A west room glows in the evening. North light is steady and cool; south light is warm and strong. The same colour looks completely different in each.

Light decides how you use a room

We often move a kitchen table, a reading chair or a desk to where the light lands at the time of day you’ll use it. Sometimes we swap rooms entirely.

Light at night matters too

After dark, a room is lit by lamps. We plan lighting at three heights, always warm, so rooms feel calm in the evening rather than flat.

So we visit, and we wait

If we can, we see your home at two times of day. It’s the most valuable hour of the whole project.

Begin with a site visit.
